PlantUML (.puml) is the source of truth for the user-facing architecture pictures. Maven renders them to committed SVGs under ../images/diagrams/ so AsciiDoc preview and GitHub show images — no Mermaid license, and no Markdown fences in .adoc files.

Use !pragma layout smetana in every file so Graphviz is not required.

edw-overview.svg is a hand-laid poster under docs/images/diagrams/. The rows are positioned by hand, so it has no .puml and mvn generate-resources leaves it alone.

Render locally or via Maven

Maven (generate-resources) writes SVGs next to the screenshots:

mvn generate-resources

Or with a PlantUML jar (same version as plantuml.version in the root pom.xml):

java -jar plantuml.jar -tsvg -o ../images/diagrams .

Commit both the .puml change and the updated .svg.
