A source query is a satellite-shaped input on a Business Vault canvas: a table/view or SQL statement that SCD2 and PIT tables can hop to. Use it when history lives outside the Data Vault target connection (for example a corrective view on another database). SCD2 does not care where the rows come from, only that they sort on the same hub hash key and date as the other streams. The hub itself is set on the SCD2 table.
The Data Vault model still has one target database. This object is the exception on the BV side.

Name — Canvas identity. SCD2 field mappings and satellite configs use this name as the source. Must be unique among tables on this Business Vault canvas; OK warns and stays open if another table already uses it.

Database connection — Hop RDBMS used by the generated Table Input. Empty means the Data Vault target.

Source kind — Table/view, or authored SQL.

Table / view — Physical name when kind is table. Optional schema.

SQL — Inner SELECT when kind is SQL. Line comments (
--) and block comments (/* /) are stripped before Get fields, Preview, and generated Table Input SQL (string literals are left alone; Oracle/+ */hints are kept). Trailing;is stripped. The generated Table Input wraps this as a subquery so the plugin can addWHERE(hash-key partitions, incremental watermark) andORDER BY(hash key + date). On desktop the editor is Hop’s StyledText SQL highlighter (keywords, comments, strings, dialect reserved words from the chosen connection). -
Hash key (source column) — Required. Column name in this table, view, or SQL (for example
burger_hkey). -
Hash key (hub field) — Hub hash key name used as the SCD2 grain when it does not match the source column (for example
hub_burger_hkey). Leave empty when the names already match. The generated pipeline maps this with a Select Values transform after Table Input; the SQL is not rewritten. -
Functional timestamp — Optional SCD2 timeline column (else SCD2 table / model / load-date fallback).

Load date field — Optional PIT pointer column (else Data Vault load date).
Columns
Get fields and Preview run against the chosen connection. Get fields copies name, Hop type, length, and precision from JDBC metadata. Persist the column list so Check model and SCD2 Suggest mappings work without a live JDBC round-trip at generate time. Hash key, functional timestamp, and load date are not suggested as mapped attributes.
