Related guide: Kimball bus matrix.

The bus matrix is a derived Kimball crosstab over every dimensional model (.hdm) on a resource definition group.

  • Rows — fact-like tables, grouped by Business / L1 / L2 / L3

  • Columns — conformed dimensions (role-playing aliases collapse to the physical table)

  • Cells — X (or a role count) where the fact uses that dimension

Open

  • Resource definition group editor → Bus matrix

  • EDW Journey → Dimensional stage → Bus matrix

  • Dimensional model canvas toolbar

  • Tools → View bus matrix…

The Group combo switches resource definition group. Filter by business or process level, search fact/dimension names, and toggle unused dimensions. Double-click a row, column, or cell to open the .hdm table. Export SVG or CSV from the toolbar. Dimension names tilt 45° counter-clockwise inside trapeziums that follow the text. The header row is tall so long names fit.
