A Business Vault bridge (BvBridge) is a consumption-layer table of two or more hub hash keys. Typical uses:
-
Many-to-many relationships already stored as a Data Vault link, flattened for reporting joins
-
Same-as / hierarchy links (parent and child hash keys of the same hub)
-
Optional allocation weight
This is not a Kimball dimensional bridge (.hdm DmBridge). Dimensional bridges resolve dimension surrogate keys; BV bridges resolve raw-vault hub hash keys.
Canvas
On a .hbv model, Add bridge table. Edit:
-
Name and physical table name
-
Optional weight field
-
Optional load SQL
-
Linked Data Vault hubs and links (derivatives)
Bind a link whenever the grain already exists in the raw vault. Binding the participating hubs as well is optional; hash-key columns are taken from the link’s hubs.
Layout and DDL
The target layout is:
-
One column per distinct hub hash key (from bound links, then bound hubs)
-
Optional weight (
Number) -
Optional load-cycle ID when the BV model stores it
Primary key is the composite of the hash-key columns. Foreign keys to parent hubs are emitted when BV and DV share a physical database and Generate foreign keys is on.
Load pipeline
Business Vault Update includes bridges after SCD2 and PIT, before SQL business tables.
-
No SQL —
SELECTof hub hash keys from the first bound Data Vault link -
SQL present — Table Input runs the authoring SQL, then the standard BV target load (table output or staging file)
Pipeline names use bridgePipelineNamePrefix (default bv-bridge-).
